Is such a glider even suitable for powered flying? The answer is, yes, of course! Ideally, hybrid versions are for pilots who desire a combination wing for both free flying and powered paragliding.
If you plan to spend 70% to free flying and 30% to powered flying, then a hybrid glider is the right choice. If you want to own only one paraglider and flying with a paramotor is just a way to get in the air for you, then again a hybrid glider is the right choice. On the other hand, if you consider the many possibilities and qualities of today's powered gliders, it is necessary for each pilot to define their own unique requirements for powered flying, while considering their economic priorities.
Hybrid gliders are primarily designed and tuned for free flight. And at higher loads, such as with a paramotor, hybrids can sometimes exhibit behavior which a motor pilot may not prefer. Hybrid gliders tend to be less stable in roll at higher loads, which actually may suit some pilots who prefer sporty handling and playfulness when flying close to the ground. The new powerful free flight profiles are designed for maximum buoyancy which makes these profiles more sensitive to air movements flying against the wind and in turbulence. On the plus side, hybrid gliders usually require shorter takeoff speed while offering slower landings. On the other hand modern powered gliders, excel in roll and pitch-jaw stability and offer a wide range of speed.
The Illusion 2 benefits from the latest technologies and development experience of our current gliders.
The Illusion 2 is an extraordinary user friendly glider suitable for a wide range of pilots. It excels in performance, stability and easy handling in the entire weight range. Reliable, easy to pack and store without the risk of bent rods.
The Illusion 2 exhibits balanced canopy behavior. The neutral movements of the canopy in turbulent air are supported by precisely definable control, which contributes to the safety and pleasant steering. The steering forces are low to medium and progressively increase. The canopy responds willingly to the steering. Inputs up to 40% of the control range allow easy control in strong thermal cores.
Easy inflating and rising of the canopy during takeoff, these are the mandatory "ingredients", which are one of MAC PARA's parameters of the overall glider's safety.
Reliable take-offs and landings are a matter of course for Illusion 2. Activation of the speed system is easy thanks to high-quality ball bearings pulleys. The stability of the canopy at full speed will please performance-oriented pilots. The imaginary icing on the cake is an extraordinary glide for the given category. The hybrid version is equipped with trims on C straps. These are used to compensate for torques from the paramotor, or to speed up the glider in calm air. The control handles and risers of the are equipped with strong magnets that make it easier to attach the handles to the straps in flight.
The canopy itself is designed for maximum aerodynamic cleanliness. It features: Triple positive 3D shaping, negative 3D leading edge shaping, mini-ribs on the trailing edge and newly shaped stabilizers contribute to the glider's high performance. Optimized diameter and material of ARAMID sheathed lines warranty correct geometry of AOA during glider's life. Canopy shape, 52 cells, internal structure, diagonal ribs, line geometry - all have been optimized to provide the canopy sufficient rigidity, ensuring stability and a pleasant and comfortable flight in turbulent air.
It benefits from the latest technologies. The rib reinforcement system is made using nitinol wires to optimally support the shape of the profiles and guarantees clean surface of the canopy, even when the glider is folded carelessly. The canopy combines classic and lightweight fabrics. Skytex 38 Universal is used on the heavily stressed leading edge. The main part of the canopy is made of Skytex 32 Universal and Skytex 27 Classic II materials. Profiles and diagonal ribs are made of Skytex 32 Hard.
The gallery lines and main lines are made of Edelrid's Aramid / Kevlar material, brake lines are made of Edelrid's Dynema. The risers are made of narrow Kevlar / Polyester webbing and are equipped with high quality ball bearing pulleys. For clarity, the lines are color-coded in the rows.
Illusion 2 Hybrid is a top paraglider designed for pilots combining free and powered flying. For pilots who prefer the highest level of safety. The Illusion 2 Hybrid has been tested for powered flying and received DGAC approval. Its flight characteristics and stability provide comfort on board, while excellent performance allows long flights with minimal fuel consumption.
Finally, the most difficult part. How to choose the right size and choose the colour design? Regarding the colour; you must decide according to your own preferences, but with the choice of size you can ask your instructor, dealer or MAC PARA for advice.
The Illusion 2 is available in 6 sizes. These sizes cover the weight range from 73 kg up to 193 kg.

The Illusion 2 Hybrid is manufactured using the paragliding industries well established lightweight material with excellent durability; Skytex 27, 32 and 38 from Porcher Sport (NCV). For the supporting and diagonal ribs we use Skytex 32 Hard with “hard finish” coating E29A. This gives the advantage of a sail that is both lightweight and very durable.
